Gridiron West is proud to announce that the finals series for the 2013-14 season will be held at Gosnells Oval. The Semi Finals will be held on the 1st of February and the winners of the games played will determine who gets the chance to represent at the 20th West Bowl to be held the weekend after, the 8th of February.
This season has shown a true variety in the participants with both juniors and seniors differing greatly in their matchups and having all but one club involved in the finals.
The juniors provide the early entertainment with the unbeaten West Coast Wolverines (1st) wanting to show the league their future potential by keeping their loss tally at zero while first time finalists, the Perth Blitz (4th) will be putting on a show of force, writing some of their own history to the books by getting to their first grand final in their second season of existence.
The second game has the Westside Steelers (2nd) facing off against the Perth Broncos (3rd). The younger Steelers being the only part of the club in the finals this year, will be looking to maintain a positive finish for the club while the Broncos will be attempting to copy their senior siblings from last season in getting to the big show and getting a title of their own.
The later games for the day are for the seniors to shine. With the WA Raiders formally getting together post-season for the 2014 Australian Gridiron League, these games will serve to show what WA has to offer in its top four clubs before they all become teammates, united against the other states.
The first game is a 2012-13 West Bowl repeat with the Perth Blitz (1st), finishing top of the table for the first time in their history, facing the Perth Broncos (4th). The Broncos, coasting into 4th place thanks to an under performing Steelers, will be determined to show that in-season results mean little when it comes to finals whereas the Blitz will be looking to appear in their third straight West Bowl and avenge the result from the last game of the previous finals series.
The final place in the 2013-14 West Bowl will be decided at the end of the clash between the Rockingham Vipers and Curtin Saints. Both teams have a lot to prove to themselves; the Saints in returning to the West Bowl after a 14 year break while the Vipers, perennial West Bowl participants (and winners), getting back to the big show after a year off after being knocked out in the Semis last season.
All of the games, seniors and juniors, will be a big showcase for the talent and potential for the gridiron in WA. Come on down and support your team and the sport itself.
