Perth Broncos vs Perth Blitz

Well, we finally made it. Everything has been building over the past 2-3 years to this. The inaugural Women?s Westbowl. In the debut Women?s season Gridiron West has seen five teams compete and the standard of football has improved throughout the year as around 150 enthusiastic rookies have learnt the sport from the ground up. The first Westbowl sees the undefeated Perth Blitz take on second placed Perth Broncos who accounted for a much-improved West Coast Wolverines in the semi-final.

Whilst the Blitz go into the game as firm favourites, they will not be taking the Broncos lightly. They pushed the Blitz in both their encounters during the season and match up well on both offense and defense. Broncos Linebacker Kellie Hopkins will be looking to lead her defense against the powerhouse offense of the Blitz led by Quarterback Lou Devine who has thrown for over 1000 yards this season.

Meanwhile an injury to Outback linebacker, Rhyanna Edbrooke, sustained in the semi-final against the Saints will leave a hole in the Blitz?s defence which the Broncos will be looking to exploit with Running back Allisen Longwood.

No matter what happens, this will be an historic game. Who will be crowned the first ever Gridiron West Women?s Champions?

Perth Blitz vs Rockingham Vipers

The Junior Westbowl sees arch rivals the Perth Blitz and Rockingham Vipers square off in a repeat of last year?s encounter, in which the Perth Blitz emerged victorious. Things could be different this year with the Vipers accounting for the Blitz in both meetings during the season to finish on top of the ladder. The Blitz?s only defeats were at the hands of the Vipers, so they will certainly be looking to turn that around and secure back to back championships.

Both teams go into the game without their regular season quarterbacks, who left for college scholarships in January making this Westbowl the battle of the backups with Mitchell Crookes leading the Vipers and Bailey Moke taking the snaps for the Blitz. Both teams have powerful offenses with a number of Junior Outback players filling the ranks and on the other side of the ball is just as strong with star studded line-ups on both defences.

The game should be a shootout with both teams known for playing at the highest intensity and with players on both teams playing with each other at state and national level the personal rivalry will be there with no one wanting to give an inch in the individual match ups.
